The implementation of the Google Wallet app is part of a series of actions taken following the bank's direction of how contactless payments with Android mobile devices (e.g. Samsung and Nokia) could be refined to make them run more smoothly.

Íslandsbanki customers can now add their cards to the Google Wallet app and make contactless payments for products and services using Google Pay on their Android phones and supported Wear OS smartwatches.
This is a turning point because Google Wallet has not been available on Android devices in Iceland until now. Customers who add their cards to Google Wallet continue to pay for their products with a card issued by Íslandsbanki when the phone is placed at the POS terminal. The Google Wallet app only handles communication between card and POS terminal to make contactless payments more efficient. With the use of technology, the bank's customers can further embrace the contactless functionality of their mobile phones instead of presenting a plastic card.
