Card renewal

Expired card

  • Your card is valid until the last day of the month it expires. For example, if it expires on 1/26, the card is valid until the 31st of January, 2026.
  • A new card should arrive in the middle of the month of the same month the old card expires. Remember to check if you have received your new card before the old one becomes invalid.
  • If your card has not arrived by post, it may have been lost or returned to the bank. Please ensure your letterbox has your name written on it, or your card will be returned to us.
  • If you do not receive your card, please get in touch with us at the Contact Centre, through our online chat or by phone (440-4000) so that we can locate your card or order a new card if it has been lost in the mail.

Damaged card

  • Please contact us at the Contact Centre through our online chat or phone (440-4000) to order a new card.
  • If your card suddenly stops working, the chip might be damaged, and you must contact us to order a new card. However, you may still be able to use contactless payments through your phone or smartwatch while you wait.
  • It can take up to 10 days for the card to arrive at the branch and 15 days to arrive at home. Card information is available in the Íslandsbanki app, so you can connect the card to a smart device while waiting for the card.
