On 28th November 2008, the Central Bank of Iceland issued a regulation on foreign exchange, following a legislation passed by the Alþingi. The regulation introduced rules that are quite restrictive for foreign investors making new investments in Icelandic securities or the exchange of ISK into other currencies almost impossible. On 1st November 2009 the rules were relaxed a little, allowing new investments and the repatriation of the proceeds from those new investments
