A record in registrations and donations in the Reykjavík Marathon

Now, four days before the Reykjavík marathon nearly 8,000 runners have registered to participate. This is a 16% increase from the same time last year, when all previous records were broken. The majority of registered participants are women, or 56%. Furthermore, women outnumber men in all distances except the marathon where men are 71% of all participants.
Participants are of 60 different nationalities. After Iceland, Americans are most numerous, or 364, there are 204 Canadians registered for the race, 199 Brits and 145 Germans.

Online registration ends tomorrow at four o´clock but runners can also register for the race in Laugardalshöllin on Friday.

About 19.5 million ISK accrued for good causes

This is the third year that runners raise charities through www.hlaupastyrkur.is. Last year 43.6 milljion ISK were raised for 140 charities, but there was a 50% increase from the year before. Donations have already accumulated 19.5 million ISK. This is more than 10% increase from the same period last year.

Viktor Snær Sigurðsson, a 13 year old boy, has collected more than any individual or just over 1.1 million ISK for the AHC Association. He runs for his younger sister who has a rare neurological disease.
